SPRINGWOOD: Proposed new radio station Radio FM 88 is looking for a home for its transmitter and aerial after Logan City Council refused to allow the broadcaster to use land at Karawatha St.

The council last week refused a request by Celestial Industries to place a transmitter and aerial on the site used by FM101 near the Springwood water lower.

In a letter to Celestial Industries managing director Jeffrey Shaw council chief executive officer Gary kellar said the area was already "fully committed in relation to transmission devices".

Mr Shaw said the Australian Broadcasting Authority had approved his application for a license to operate on the FM 88 frequency. Which his station would use to promote trade, sport education and tourism.

However, before this is possible he need a site for the transmitter and aerial, and to this end hopes a private land operator in Springwood will be willing to help the station out.

Mr Shaw said the aerial would be "about the size of a large fishing pole". He said the radio's studio would be located elsewhere.

"Perhaps a fellow member of the Logan Chamber of commerce might know of alternative sites, such as the top of the State Bank building or Q Ford sign, and can speak to those respective owners on our behalf to get their permission." he Said.

Mr Shaw can be contacted on +61 7 3808 1200.
