Logan City residents will soon be able to tune into a second community radio station with the recent approval of a license for a facility to be based in Springwood.
The Australian Broadcasting Authority has granted a license, valid until February next year, for a station to operate on the FM88 frequency.
Jeff Shaw, Managing director of spring wood-based shipping agent Celestial Industries Pty Ltd, will head the operation to focus on trade, sport and education.
Radio FM88 will be situated on the Pacific Hwy service road at Springwood with the aim of communication with the 93,000 vehicles, which travel along the free way each day.
Mr Shaw envisages that the station will be run with a focus on the community.
Business owners, educators, sporting bodies and other sectors will be invited to buy time in what Mr Shaw said would be known as "the community center of the air".
He is the Group Managing Director for New Zealand Shipping, Australian Trade & Shipping and camphor tree and oil distributor, Camphor House.
Mr Shaw is also the president of a community center for personal growth at Salisbury.
Expected to go to air within the next three months, FM88 will join the Woodridge-based 101FM on the radio waves.
