Air Conditioning Gas in Cars 
When importing cars into Australia (these regulations do not apply to New Zealanders) please ensure you appraise yourself with the new regulations pertaining to vehicles with pre charged air-conditioning units containing CFC/HCFC gasses. 

Basically, CFC gas (R12) is totally banned and must not be imported underany circumstances. Whereas HCFC (R134A) may be imported under license. These regulations became Law in 1995 and will be vigorously enforced with effect from 01 April 2004. We suggest you get a company in the field of air-conditioning or refrigeration to state on their letter head that they have checked your car and find no CFC R12. The car ships are run from Japan and are proving to be unreliable in its scheduling of port calls, we recommend you make booking and wait for confirmation to be confirmed before proceeding with your personal travel plans (we suggest you allocate 2 to 3 days for confirmation to come through)
